Story
Across Somalia, 7.1 million people (close to 50 per cent of the population) now face famine, and an estimated 1.5 million children under the age of five faces acute malnutrition, including 386,400 who are likely to be severely malnourished. (UN)
Four consecutive failed rainy seasons and severe climate-crisis-induced drought are causing the dire situation. Combined with regional conflict, the prolonged impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. And soaring food prices tied to the war in Ukraine have resulted in a 160 per cent increase in people facing catastrophic levels of food insecurity, starvation and disease in Somalia, and the risk of famine looms more significant than ever.
Your donation to the International Relief Foundation (IRF) will provide emergency relief, food, water, medicine, and other essential supplies to people in need.
IRF has been working in Somalia since 2011. With your support, we have provided food, water, healthcare and education to families affected by the devastating impact of climate change and decades of conflict. We are proud to be one of the few NGOs that established a team directly within southern Somalia, an inaccessible territory for many.
Today, we continue our life-saving work to improve the quality of life of some of the most vulnerable communities within the area.
