As part of the Ramadan Iftar Project, the International Relief Foundation (IRF), in partnership with Sufilive, aka Islamic Supreme Council of America, distributed food packages to 600 poor and internally displaced families who have been affected by the ongoing drought and conflict in Somalia during the blessed month of Ramadan.
The target groups of this intervention were the most vulnerable people, including women, children, elders, and minority community Families in Brava, Marka and Mogadishu, the southern region of Somalia. Ramadan food baskets, consisting of flour, rice, sugar, cooking oil, and dates, help meet the nutritional needs of this month, which is known for its abundance of markets and high consumption rates.
IRF intervention was continued only for one month (Ramadan month), while the drought situation is exacerbating due to the failure of four consecutive rainy seasons, plus skyrocketing food prices. The famine risk looms more significantly than ever; 70% of the population needs urgent food Assistance. An urgent increase in support from the international community is essential to avert famine.
International Relief Foundation (IRF) has been working in Somalia since 2011, delivering lifesaving and humanitarian projects, including food aid, education, healthcare, clean water and livelihoods.
May Allah (swt) reward you greatly for your charity in Ramadan and give you and your loved ones a home in Jannatul Firdaus. Ameen.
